Although still spectacular in areas, the overall impacts to the underwater beauty are evident. Elkhorn coral, now listed on the endangered species list, can be found in the shallow bay waters just offshore. Health out cropping perched high next to those lost to a host of environmental stressors and natural lifecycles. The park also encompasses some very unique and rare mangrove ecosystems, which have been identified to contain several species of deeper water coral that could be critical to researches understanding the changing impacts of the ecosystem.
