HMS Investigator - 2011
HMS Investigator was a merchant ship purchased in 1848 to search for Sir John Franklin's lost expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. It made two voyages to the Arctic and had to be abandoned in 1853 after becoming trapped in the ice for three consecutive winters. The wreckage was discovered in July 2010 by the Parks Canada Underwater Archeology Service in the Northwest Territories deep inside the Arctic Circle.
In 2011 Parks Canada returned to the wreck site to conduct a full archeological assessment of the vessel. I was fortunate to be part of the team as the project photographer and it was an expedition of a lifetime.
