Antarctica 2025
In early 2019, I was invited to participate in a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project studying seaweed population ecology and genetics on the Ross Sea Ice Shelf near McMurdo Station, Antarctica. After years of delays caused by COVID, climate-driven changes to the ice shelf, and infrastructure limitations, a small team finally deployed to McMurdo Station from early October through early December, 2025.
Over nearly eight weeks on the continent, I had the opportunity - above and below the ice - to document the science, natural history, and daily life in and around McMurdo Station.
